When Jesus was asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” He responded, “…Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…” (Mark 12:28; 30, NIV). Jesus was saying to love God with everything you are. All four of those areas make up the whole of a person: spiritual, physical, emotional, and the mental.
It is important to live life in a way that keeps all four areas in alignment and working together. When all four areas are working together, we are at our best. This how we best climb to our God-given potential.
SPIRITUAL
Zig Ziglar says, “You’re gonna be dead a lot longer than you’re going to be alive, so you need to be setting those long term goals.” That is a very good point. As followers of Jesus, we all have spiritual gifts given to us from God to better serve him. Discover your gifts and live accordingly.
PHYSICAL
Take care of your physical body. Whether it is to lose weight, exercise more, or get more sleep, take care of yourself. The healthier you are the more energy and ENTHUSIASM you will have. Discover your abilities and live accordingly.
EMOTIONAL
Spend more time with your family, call a friend you have not talked to in a while, or have a quality, heartfelt conversation with your spouse. Develop some emotional attachment and stability. Discover your God-given passions and live accordingly.
MENTAL
Take a class, read a book, or go to a seminar. Continue to expand your mind. Also, discover how God has wired you. What is your personality style? Discover that and live accordingly.
If we increase our level of competence in each one of these areas and we better discover how God has created us to serve him in each one of these areas we will better feed our ENTHUSIASM!
