My definition of enthusiasm: “A God-inspired fire ignited deep within your soul that drives you to never settle, live with passion, and turn the world upside down.” A couple of weeks ago I began to think about the ingredients of enthusiasm. I often talk about the meaning of enthusiasm but I have never really discussed the actual ingredients of enthusiasm.
What makes up enthusiasm? The definition is the effect and how it is lived out, but what are the ingredients?
I’ve discovered four ingredients. Let us look at one of those…ENERGY.
Enthusiasm ingredient number one is…ENERGY. When you have enthusiasm, you have energy. When you are performing from your enthusiasm no one has to motivate you or get you going. You do not have to rely on caffeine or some other substance. The enthusiasm has the energy you need to carry though.
There are many ways to keep your energy high, but one of the most important ways is to take care of your physical body. As a follower of Jesus, the body is the “temple of the Holy Spirit” and we should honor God with our body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). How should we treat and honor our body in order to have optimal energy?
May I introduce you to the “4-Get-It” plan? In other words, if you want to take better care of yourself then “4-Get-It”. Yes, you heard me right, just “4-Get-It.”
#1 Thing To Get…Enough Sleep
If we are going to have plenty of energy as an ingredient for our enthusiasm we must get enough sleep. This may be different for different people. Not everybody needs eight hours of sleep a night…Some people need less…some people need more. Everyone is different. Find out how much sleep you need in order to have plenty of energy and intentionally get that much sleep. One of the best ways to know you are getting the amount of sleep you need is that you are able to consistently wake up without an alarm clock.
Get your sleep to get your energy…
#2 Thing To Get…Enough Oxygen
Breathe! Most us do not breathe well enough to get the right amount of oxygen we need in order to perform at an optimal level. We typically breathe too shallow, only into the upper part of our lungs.
Take time to breathe deep. Make sure that not only does your chest move but your stomach moves as well. Get that oxygen down into the lower part of your lungs. Do some breathing exercises to help you be intentional about your breathing.
When you do physical exercise it forces you to breathe deeper. The greatest benefit of physical exercise is that it forces more oxygen into your lungs.

#3 Thing To Get…The Right Amounts Of The Right Foods
Make sure at least 50% of your intake is water-rich sources. What are water-rich sources?
Water
Juices (No sugar added)
Fruits
Vegetables
Vegetables and water are better than juices and fruit. Juices and fruit can increase the acidic rate in your body. To have great energy and vitality you will want to lower your acidic rate and raise your alkaline. How do you do that? Take in more vegetables and water than you do juices and fruit. However, all four are water-rich.

#4 Thing To Get…Away From The Poisons
Drugs and alcohol should go without saying, but I will say it anyway…Get away from the drugs and alcohol. Greatly reduce your caffeine (caffeine is a dehydrator), processed foods, processed sugar and salt. Completely cut out tobacco use.
Get away from the poisons to get your energy…
That is my “4-Get-It” plan for having optimal health. It is simple, easy to remember, and it is sustainable. How do you gain more energy as an ingredient to your enthusiasm…”4-Get-It!”
