Over the past three blogs (not counting “The Shack” movie review) we have looked at how each personality style energizes, prioritizes, and communicates. Today let us look at how each personality style makes decisions.
The security seeking style-The Hearts-typically make decisions based on past experiences. (Remember their time focus is on the past.) Some hearts are more logical in their decision making while others can be more emotional. They tend to base their decision on what has worked in the past, the tried and true.
The thrill-seeking style-The Bodies-typically make decisions based on what is taking place right now. (Remember the time focus for the Bodies is the now.) Some Bodies are more logical in their decision making while others can be more emotional. Bodies tend to base their decisions on what makes sense in the moment and not necessarily what has worked in the past.
The identity seeking style-The Souls-typically make decisions based on how it will positively impact the future. (Remember the time focus of Souls is the future.) They are more likely to base their decisions on emotion rather than logic. Souls tend to base their decisions on how the decision will affect everyone involved.
The knowledge seeking style-The Minds-typically make decisions based on strategy. They are much more likely to base their decisions on logic rather than emotion. The Minds tend to base their decisions on what will be the most strategic and efficient, often times giving little regard to people’s feelings.
Just to be clear, we need all four styles of decision making to run churches, organizations, and even families at their optimal level. Great minds do not think alike, but they do think together. We need to appreciate and work with each other’s decision-making style so together we can better reach our God-given potential.
