“Some relationships are worth ending!”

This was part of my answer to the recent question I was asked, “This whole world is negative. Everything you see, everywhere you look, negative comments, attitudes, behaviors. How do you keep this mindset from getting to you?”

Do you ever feel this way? Do you feel like everything around you is negative? Do you wonder how you can keep this mindset from getting you down?

Here are some tips:

  • Evaluate what negativity you can reduce or eliminate

The default reality is that there is a whole lot of negativity around us. Some of it can be reduced or even eliminated, but probably not all of it. At least not on this side of heaven. First of all, I would encourage you to evaluate the negativity in your life and see where you can honestly reduce or eliminate some of the negatives you are experiencing.

  • Seek out positive experiences

Secondly, I would encourage you to be intentional in seeking out positive experiences. Read positive books, listen to positive audios, watch positive videos, etc. Go to positive conferences, conventions, and seminars. Flood yourself with positive experiences. One coming up on October 6th is our very own “ENTHUSIASM Experience”. You can find more information at this link.

  • Hang around positive people

Thirdly, try to hang around positive people. We are typically the average of the 5 to 10 people we spend the most time with. Try to find those people who are positive and it will help you become more positive in the process. This may mean you have to reduce or even eliminate some of your relationships. Some relationships are worth ending and others are not. You have to evaluate that.

  • Develop positive self-talk

Fourthly, and this is the weird one, develop a positive self-talk. I periodically read through a self-talk script out loud in front of the mirror. It sounds weird, but it is amazing how much it helps if you do it every day for at least 30 to 60 days. Preferably in the morning when you first wake up and at night just before you go to bed. If you email me: TommyLanham@TommyLanham.com I will send you a couple of self-talk scripts that I use.

With these four tips you will at least begin the process of overcoming the overwhelming negativity in your life. You may find that the more you intentionally seek positivity the more positivity you will experience.
