One of my two favorite sports is Disc Golf (my other favorite is Wiffle Ball). Disc Golf is played similar to ball golf. Instead of hitting a ball with a club into a hole, you throw a disc into a basket. Each basket has a specific par, just like in ball golf, and the goal is to get the disc in the basket in as few throws as possible.
The interesting thing about Disc Golf is the number of different discs that perform different tasks. You have driver discs, mid-range discs, and putter discs. You also have some discs that are easier to curve to the right while others are easier to curve to the left. Some discs float, in case you do not make those over the water shots, and others do not. Different discs can be made of different kinds of plastic and each one serves a different purpose.
Here is the weird thing. I believe God has made us in a similar way that manufacturers have made those discs. He has made all of us different to serve different tasks. The sad part about this is that discs are more often used for their specific purpose than people are.
Galatians 6:4-5 says, “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life” (The Message). We all have different spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, personalities, and experiences. God has made us for a specific purpose.
Just like certain discs are used for specific tasks, so certain people are made for specific tasks. None of us can do everything. There is something you do better than most other people. Find out what that is and then sink yourself into that.
Be creative! Make the search! Discover your purpose! Then wear yourself out doing exactly what God created you to do! Anybody up for a game of disc golf??
