What do I wish I had known when I was younger?
I wish I had known my value. I think the more valuable we see ourselves the better choices we make. I only saw a fraction of my value before I started listening to Zig Ziglar and reading personal development books.
I was 25 years old when I bought my first Zig Ziglar tape. It was titled “How To Be A Winner”. That tape helped set my life on a journey of personal growth that gets more and more fun the further I travel. I am learning better every day how to be a winner.
When I was 28 years old, I asked my brand new bride if we could afford to buy one audiobook a month. (She was and still is, the financial brain in the family and at the time we had limited income because we had just started a ministry where we were paid entirely through donations. Sometimes finances were tight, but that is another blog for another time.)
Her response, “Can we afford not to?” I bet sometimes she may regret that answer. Especially when she walks into my office to the sight of several hundred and maybe over a thousand tapes and CDs of books, seminars, conferences, and other various forms of audio teachings.
It has been 20 years since I bought that first Zig Ziglar tape. That lead to the reading of “Untapped Potential” by Jack Lannom (No relation because he spells his name funny), which lead to the reading of “Over The Top” by Zig Ziglar, which lead to audio programs and books by Brian Tracy, Dennis Waitley, Jack Canfield, John Maxwell, Dave Ramsey, and the list goes on and on and on.
I have never regretted the purchase of that first Zig Ziglar tape in 1997, or the eventual commitment my wife and I made back in 2000 to purchase one audio program a month. All of these have helped me better understand my value in this world and to be honest they have helped my value grow.
