The best way to predict the future is to create it. Reaching your potential does not typically
happen by accident. Follow these two easy steps to help you create your future.
1. You must become intentional.
Make plans to get from where you are to where you want to be. Zig Ziglar used to say, “We must move from being a wandering generality to a meaningful specific.” If you want to truly reach your God-given potential you must become intentional.
Most people are not so much held back by a lack of time as they are a lack of focus and direction. What intentional steps can you take to get from where you are to where you want to be? If you need help getting started, find a friend or mentor or even hire a coach, but begin the planning process.
2. Set some specific goals.
GOALS stands for Godly Objectives Assuring Lasting Significance. Make your goals specific, measurable, positive and in the present tense. This will help you in your goal achievement process.
If you fail to plan you plan to fail. Wake up each morning knowing exactly what you are going to do to get from where you are to where you want to be. This is the breakfast of champions!
You do need to be flexible in your plans. Sometimes, no – often times – things will happen that will cause you to have to make adjustments. However, it is better to have a plan and then adjust the plan than to not have any plan, to begin with.
The difference between people who reach their God-given potential and those who do not is this: those who do have simply developed the habit of doing things that other people will not do. One of those habits is making plans.
