The Greatest Showman, P. T. Barnum and Tommy Lanham

My wife and kids took me to see the movie “The Greatest Showman” for my birthday. It is a musical loosely based on the life of P. T. Barnum. It is one of the five best movies I have ever watched.

The acting was great, the music and songs were excellent, and it was extremely inspiring. When I came home, I went to my office and began to write. My mind was moving faster than I could think (I know that does not seem possible, but it really did happen).

P.T. Barnum’s story inspired me in my desire to break the monotony of the mundane and the mediocre by bringing as much enthusiasm to as many businesses, ministries, marriages, and individual lives as I possibly can. Barnum stepped outside the status quo and did the unusual, strange, and weird. That inspires me!

I want to share with you what was birthed out of the inspiration I received from the movie. “The Greatest Showman”.

Here are those words:

I am escaping the mundane jungle and living as an ENTHUSIAST. I am ready to leave the mediocre and the status quo behind. The less sense it makes, the more it appeals to me.

I will fight the fight, run the race, step beyond my stride. I will seek out the greatness in others so we can share our journey together.

I cannot be satisfied. It is not in my DNA. I cannot grasp the concept of arrival.

I am only limited by my imagination and my imagination is limitless and running wild. I cannot control it and therefore it is controlling me. The greatest nation in the world is imagination.

I cannot be still. I cannot be held. I cannot be settled.

Here I go! My time is come. I will surpass myself daily.

I cannot hold back. I serve a God with no limitations and therefore when I allow God’s power to work through me I have no limits.

I have left the land of the Mundanians. They are no longer my tribe. They are too small to fit me any longer.

I have entered the land of the ENTHUSIASTS. Feeding my ENTHUSIASM has become my daily routine. The ENTHUSIASTS will change the world and any part they cannot change, they will leave to their own small, mediocre, status quo, Mundanian demise.

I have not come this far to only come this far. There is still more ENTHUSIASM to spread and I will be the number one ENTHUSIASM spreader in the world!

Thank you for letting me share. I am on an ENTHUSIASM journey and the more that come along the better! Will you join me?  Are you ready to become a part of the fellow enthusiasts’ community?

What Makes You Tick and What Ticks You Off?

Appolonya & Daddy FavoriteOn December 20th, 2003, I was waiting for my first child to be born. Nothing else mattered that day except the birth of my daughter. This day would remain etched in my mind forever.

After they took my wife back to prep her for surgery I was sitting with my parents. I asked them,“As someone who has raised five kids, what parenting advice could you give me?”

My Dad looked at me and said, “Parent them according to their personality. That is where I went wrong with you. I thought I was raising a typical little boy, I did not realize I was raising a boy with the heart of a poet.” I will never forget that advice.

Have you ever noticed that some people are just weird? Some people are just so different from you they must be out of touch with reality, right? That is not how normal people act. But who determines what is normal?

Everybody is different. What makes you tick and what ticks you off is unique to you. We all have different personalities. Each one of should embrace how God has made us. If you think being you is tough you should try being someone else. God made you to be you!

However, each one of us can be grouped into one of four major personalities:

heart, body, soul, mindHearts are security seeking personalities. They make up about 40-50% of the world’s population. They focus on the past.

Bodies are thrill-seeking personalities. They make up about 30-40% of the world’s population. They focus on the now.

Souls are identity seeking personalities. They make up about 10-15% of the world’s population. They focus on the future.

Minds are knowledge seeking personalities. They make up about 5-10% of the world’s population. They see time in intervals.

Each one of these personalities has a different way they energize, prioritize, communicate and decision-make. Over the next four days, we will take a closer look at how each personality style energizes, prioritizes, communicates, and decision-makes.

What personality style do you think you are?  Comment below now and then at the end of the week after reviewing them in more detail, see if you were right!

4 Questions To Ask Before Taking Action

“Everyone gets an idea in the shower, but the successful ones get out of the shower, dry off, and do something about it” (Nolan Bushnell, inventor of Atari).Image result for take action images

Successful people take action. People who reach their God-given potential take action. Not only do they take action they take focused action and they make corrections along the way.

There is a purpose behind every action they take. When that action no longer serves the purpose then they adjust the action to better serve the purpose.

Remember this acronym, FACE:

Focus: People who reach their God-given potential are focused. They have a specific idea of what they want to accomplish and they move in that direction.

Action: They take action! They are not ones to sit around and wonder what they should do next. They are people who are consistently getting up and going to work toward their God-given purpose.

Image result for change direction imagesCorrection: They take notice of what is working and what’s not and they make adjustments accordingly. These people know how to evaluate whether their actions are taking them closer to their God-given potential or farther away.

Example: One of the best ways to know what to do to reach your God-given potential is to find someone who is in a similar place to where you want to be and find out what they did to get there. Then do the same thing. This will speed up your process so you do not have to make all the mistakes yourself. You can learn from the mistakes of others.

Ask yourself these 4 questions as you journey toward your God-given potential:

  • What is God wanting me to accomplish? What is my God-given purpose?
  • What action do I need to take immediately to move me closer to that purpose or end?
  • What adjustments do I need to make to better serve my purpose?
  • Who is where I want to be and what can I learn from them

Jesus, The Ultimate Leader

If you really want to get the most out of life (and the afterlife) you must make a decision to follow Jesus.

Ephesians 1:11-12 says, “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of his overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone” (The Message).

Laurie Beth Jones once announced to a group of business leaders that Jesus had followers that were so devout they would lay down their lives for him. Then she asked, “How many of you would like to have employees like that?” All the hands went up. Then she said, “There is a catch. You must go first.” All the hands went down.

Leadership-760x760

Sometimes it is easy to look at Jesus as the one who saves us, our friend, someone who is madly in love with us and Jesus is definitely all of these things. He is also our leader, our guide, our manager, CEO, boss, Lord! We cannot take one without the other and still get the most out of life.

Jesus wants what is best for you. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10, NIV) The King James Version says, “…that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10) The Message translation says, “…so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10).

I follow Jesus because he loves me. All these other things are bonuses.  They are real bonuses that are available to all who will follow the one the Bible calls the Lord of Lords, I have referred to as The Ultimate Leader, and we all know as Jesus.
