Dr. Norman Vincent Peale described enthusiasm this way, “Enthusiasm—the priceless quality that makes everything different.” In other words, enthusiasm is the difference maker! We often underestimate the power of enthusiasm.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” It is the difference maker in your job, your marriage, your spiritual walk, and your life. When you have enough enthusiasm for something, nothing is going to stop you in your endeavor.
I define enthusiasm this way… “A God-inspired fire ignited deep within your soul that drives you to never settle, live with passion, and turn the world upside down.” With a fire like that, you will make a better employee, and better spouse, a better parent, a better person. Enthusiasm truly is the difference maker.
You can even overcome the lack of ability in some situations when you have enough enthusiasm. As a leader of an organization, I would much rather have an enthusiastic novice working with me than an apathetic expert. Do not get me wrong, my number one preference would be an enthusiastic expert, but if I had to choose between the two, I would chose enthusiasm. Every time.
This is the reason…I know if someone has enough enthusiasm for a job then they will develop the knowledge they need to become the expert I want to hire. Their enthusiasm will fuel their actions to do whatever it takes to continue to grow and develop. Enthusiasm makes the difference.
When the Nobel Prize winning Scottish physicist, Sir Edward V. Appleton (whose discoveries made worldwide broadcasting possible) was asked what was his secret to his amazing discoveries he answered, “It was enthusiasm. I rate enthusiasm even above professional skill.”
What about your enthusiasm? In what direction is your enthusiasm leading you? What is your God-inspired fire ignited deep within your soul that drives you to never settle, live with passion and turn the world upside down leading you to do?
Wake up in the morning with enthusiasm! Bring an abundance of enthusiasm to your marriage. Bring it to your kids. Pass down the legacy of enthusiasm to your kids. Go to work each day overflowing with enthusiasm! Yes, you read that correctly – go to work each day with an abundance of enthusiasm! And if you cannot do that then start making plans to change jobs.
Enthusiasm makes the difference and when you are overflowing with enthusiasm, then you make the difference. You make the difference in your marriage, with your kids, in your church, and even in your job.
