My wife, kids, and I are in the middle of our fourth month-long spending fast. (Not four in a row – this is our fourth year of doing a month-long spending fast in February.) We homeschool our kids. We do not allow our kids to do sleepovers. We have a nightly ritual where we all get together and each one of us will enthusiastically say a short definition of our word for the year. Then we shout out our word for the year all together. I could list a plethora of other ways that my family and I are weird.
If you do not believe me just come hang out at our house for a while…you will see.
My encouragement to my family and to you is…EMBRACE YOUR WEIRD!
Whatever is different or unique about you, embrace that. If you have different gifts and abilities, then embrace them…if you have different passions then embrace them…if you have had different experiences then embrace them…if you have a different way of being motivated, a different way of thinking or communicating…a different way of prioritizing your life then embrace that…EMBRACE YOUR WEIRD!
You were born an original, don’t die a copy!
There are four main personality styles:
HEART is the security-seeking personality. They make up about 40-50% of the world’s population. Their time focus is the past. They are loyal, dependable, organized.
BODY is the thrill-seeking personality. They make up about 30-40% of the world’s population. Their time focus in the present. They are fun, exciting, and adventurous.
SOUL is the identity-seeking personality. They make up about 10-20% of the world’s population. Their time focus is the future. They are dreamers, inspirational, and purposeful.
MIND is the knowledge-seeking personality. They make up about 5-10% of the world’s population. Their time focus is intervals. They are analytical, strategic, and efficient.
Those are the four major personality styles, yet they do not fully describe the depth of weirdness we all have. These four major personality styles help
us better understand ourselves and others, yet the human psyche is more complex than merely four personality styles. There is much diversity within each one of those styles.
So embrace your weird. Develop the strengths you already have. Do not try to conform to what somebody may be. Be the person God created you to be. You are a masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)!
