What is Life Coaching?
Coaches help people like you:

– create action plans and more.
So how does coaching really work?
Coaching is the art of helping you grow and climb to your God-given potential without telling you what to do. In a coaching relationship, you choose what you want to work on and set your goals and actions. You are always in charge. I bring to the table a set of professional skills to help you identify what you really want in life, design action plans to reach those goals and get those things accomplished.
For example, your big dream may be to start your own business. A coach might start by helping you identify the key motive at the heart of your dream. It may be the desire to lead an organization that impacts the world, or wanting to be your own boss, or just to rise to the challenge of truly using all of your God-given abilities.
However you answer that question, your heart-level drive to be an entrepreneur will have a big impact on what business you get into, how you build your team, what kind of values you instill into your company, and so forth. A coach can help you think deeply about your aims so you are truly being strategic about where you put your time and energy.
Once you have a clear handle on an objective you are passionate about, your coach will help you develop an action plan, overcome obstacles along the way, and keep moving forward until one day, viola! You are successful!
How is coaching different from mentoring or counseling?
While mentors give wise advice based on their own experience, coaches help you fully draw from the well of your own insight and ability. Often the biggest obstacle to following your dreams isn’t knowing what to do: it’s having the self-confidence to do it! Coaches have mastered the art of believing in people.
A counselor’s goal is to move hurting people toward wholeness. Coaches help people who are basically whole to maximize their lives. Counseling focuses on the past. Coaching focuses on the future.
Coaches are truly great listeners. The focus of the coaching conversation is not on what the coach has to tell you, but on what the coach can draw out of you. Coaches believe that if we simply listen intently and ask intelligent questions, God will lead you to great insight and effective solutions to the challenges you face. You’ll be amazed at what a great coach can draw out of you.
Coaches are masters at the art of asking questions. It is hard to think something through on your own (especially if it is an emotionally charged issue). It is amazing how clear your course becomes with a trained professional asking the right questions. The extensive training coaches receive in the asking skills is the key to unlocking what God has placed in your heart.
Your coach is not a “teller” or an advice-giver. Coaches don’t tell you what to do because we respect the stewardship God has given you over your own life.
The coaching approach is based on three core values:
1. The process of change starts with God (not the coach).
2. Working with your internal motivation (instead of using guilt or pressure) and helping you take responsibility for your life maximizes growth, and
3. Believing in you is tremendously empowering.
People who work with a great coach find they can reach higher and accomplish more than ever thought possible on their own.
