On December 20th, 2003, I was waiting for my first child to be born. Nothing else mattered that day except the birth of my daughter. This day would remain etched in my mind forever.
After they took my wife back to prep her for surgery I was sitting with my parents. I asked them,“As someone who has raised five kids, what parenting advice could you give me?”
My Dad looked at me and said, “Parent them according to their personality. That is where I went wrong with you. I thought I was raising a typical little boy, I did not realize I was raising a boy with the heart of a poet.” I will never forget that advice.
Have you ever noticed that some people are just weird? Some people are just so different from you they must be out of touch with reality, right? That is not how normal people act. But who determines what is normal?
Everybody is different. What makes you tick and what ticks you off is unique to you. We all have different personalities. Each one of us should embrace how God has made us. If you think being you is tough you should try being someone else. God made you to be you!
However, each one of us can be grouped into one of four major personalities:
–Hearts are security seeking personalities. They make up about 40-50% of the world’s population. They focus on the past.
–Bodies are thrill-seeking personalities. They make up about 30-40% of the world’s population. They focus on the now.
–Souls are identity seeking personalities. They make up about 10-15% of the world’s population. They focus on the future.
–Minds are knowledge-seeking personalities. They make up about 5-10% of the world’s population. They see time in intervals.
Each one of these personalities has a different way they energize, prioritize, communicate, and decision-make. Over the next four days, we will take a closer look at how each personality style energizes, prioritizes, communicates, and decision-makers. What personality style do you think you are? Comment below now and then at the end of the week after reviewing them in more detail, see if you were right!
