Turn the World Upside Down – Starting Where You Are

When we hear the phrase “change the world,” we often think about famous people. Leaders. Inventors. Entrepreneurs. Authors. Pastors. Activists. People whose names appear in history books.

But what if changing the world doesn’t begin with millions of people? What if it begins with one? One conversation. One act of kindness. One decision. One family. One workplace. One neighborhood. One life.

The third decision in the Enthusiasm framework is: Turn the World Upside Down.

The Original “World Turners”

In Acts 17:6, the followers of Jesus were described with an extraordinary phrase: “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.”

Think about that. They weren’t famous celebrities. They didn’t have social media. They didn’t have television networks. They didn’t have podcasts or marketing departments. They had a message, a mission, and a willingness to live differently. And their lives made an impact.

You Don’t Have to Change Everyone

One of the reasons people don’t pursue their purpose is because the goal seems too big. “How could I possibly change the world?” You probably can’t change the entire world. Neither can I.

But you can change your part of the world. You can influence your family. You can encourage a coworker. You can mentor a young person. You can serve someone who needs help. You can use your gifts. You can create something meaningful. You can bring hope into a difficult environment. You can be the person who chooses kindness when everyone else chooses criticism.

That’s how change begins.

Enthusiasm Is Contagious

Have you ever been around someone whose enthusiasm changed the atmosphere? You walked into the room tired. They were excited. You weren’t sure about the idea. They believed in it. You were discouraged. But they reminded you that there was still hope.

That’s influence.

And influence doesn’t require a title. Some of the most influential people you’ll ever meet will never have a leadership title. They’re parents, teachers, friends, coaches, neighbors, coworkers, grandparents. Ordinary people who consistently make extraordinary choices.

Start With Your Circle

If you want to turn your world upside down, start with the people closest to you. Ask: Who needs encouragement from me? Who needs me to listen? Who needs me to believe in them? Who could benefit from my experience? Where can I serve? What problem can I help solve? What gift has God given me that I’m not using?

Your influence may be closer than you think.

You Don’t Need Permission

Sometimes we’re waiting for someone to give us permission to make a difference. We’re waiting for the right job, platform, or opportunity. Or maybe the right amount of money, or just a few more followers.

You don’t need a massive platform to make a meaningful difference. You need willingness, courage, and consistency. And most importantly, you need to start.

The early disciples didn’t know exactly how far their influence would reach. They simply went. They served, they shared, and they loved. They lived differently, and the world noticed.

What If You Started Today?

Don’t wait until you have everything figured out. Don’t wait until you’re more successful, more confident or until someone notices you.

Start where you are; use what you have to help who you can. Encourage who you can. Serve where you can and trust God with the results.

You may never know how far one conversation travels. You may never know what one encouraging word means to someone years later. You may never know how your example changes a child’s future. But that’s okay. Your responsibility isn’t to control the size of your impact. Your responsibility is to be faithful with the opportunity in front of you.

You don’t have to change the whole world.

Start by changing the world immediately around you. That’s how world-changing begins.
