If you really want to get the most out of life (and the afterlife) you must make a decision to follow Jesus.
Ephesians 1:11-12 says, “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of his overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone” (The Message).
Laurie Beth Jones once announced to a group of business leaders that Jesus had followers that were so devout they would lay down their lives for him. Then she asked, “How many of you would like to have employees like that?” All the hands went up. Then she said, “There is a catch. You must go first.” All the hands went down.
Sometimes it is easy to look at Jesus as the one who saves us, our friend, someone who is madly in love with us and Jesus is definitely all of these things. He is also our leader, our guide, our manager, CEO, boss, Lord! We cannot take one without the other and still get the most out of life.
Jesus wants what is best for you. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10, NIV) The King James Version says, “…that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10) The Message translation says, “…so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10).
I follow Jesus because he loves me. All these other things are bonuses. They are real bonuses that are available to all who will follow the one the Bible calls the Lord of Lords, I have referred to as The Ultimate Leader, and we all know as Jesus.
