How Are You Energized? Depends on Your Personality

introverts and extrovertsAre you an extrovert?  Introvert? Sometimes there are misunderstandings about the differences between the two. Often times most think that one is outgoing and the other is shy.  It is much deeper than that.  Extroverts are not always outgoing and introverts are not always shy. It has more to do with where one gets their energy. This blog is a look at how certain styles of people are energized. Let’s look at each one.

bodyExtroverts

Extroverts are energized by their active involvement with other people. They are typically comfortable working in groups and usually have several friends.

Extroverts are typically energized by being around other people. They, in turn, energize those they are around. They are most comfortable with the world around them, the things they can observe.

Extroverts are usually ones to jump right into something without much reflection. They typically act before think. They enjoy being active.

soulIntroverts

Introverts are typically most energized by their ideas. They are more comfortable working in small groups or perhaps even better working alone. They usually have a small group of just a few, but close, friends.

Introverts are typically energized by being alone. When they are around other people they tend to have a calming effect on others. Introverts are most comfortable with their own inner world, their own thoughts and ideas.

Introverts will sometimes think about something for so long before acting that by the time they make a decision, the opportunity has passed. They typically think before they act. They enjoy the thought process.

extroverts-vs-introverts-600x563The world needs both extroverts and introverts. Neither is better or worse than the other. We need people to think things through and we need people who just simply act. We need the richness of the introverts and we need the activity of the extroverts.

All of us have ideas and all of us take action.  We all want to be around other people sometimes and to be alone sometimes. Even though all of us have some of both extraversion and introversion in us,  each one of us has a dominant feature in us.

So which describes you best?  Extravert? or Introvert?  (Comment section is below the “submit” button under the form and says “Leave a comment”)  Let’s see how many extroverts and introverts read this blog!

Comfort Zones Follow You – Get Moving!

There is good news when it comes to overcoming fear for those who are followers of Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” (NIV). God has put in you the power to overcome the fear that may come your way.

Often when we feel “timid” or afraid that may be us trying to do things in our own power. When we rely on the power of God within us it gives us the courage to press on in the face of fear. John Wayne said, “Courage is being scared to death… and saddling up anyway.”

Courage is not an absence of fear. It is facing the fear and moving forward. As I wrote Image result for comfort zone imagesabout yesterday, the best way to overcome fear is to take action. If you wait until all the fear is gone you may never do anything.

Often times our fear is not even reality. Zig Ziglar defines fear this way, “False Evidence Appearing Real.” The fear we are facing may seem very real at the moment, but typically it is not. It is just us wanting to subconsciously (or maybe even consciously) stay in our comfort zone.

This is what I have discovered about comfort zones…they follow you. If you step out of your comfort zone eventually your comfort zone will follow you and what was once uncomfortable will become comfortable. At that point, it will be time to step out of your comfort zone again.

If you are truly serious about climbing to your God-given potential, then you will have to rely on your God-given “spirit of power, love, and self-discipline.” Face your fears head on. Step out of your comfort zone and live this God-given life to the fullest!

What fears do you need to face?
What comfort zones do you need to step out of to reach your God-given potential?
What is the next step you will take?

2 Keys to Help You Reach Your Potential

What two key words separate those who reach their God-given potential and those who do not?
Image result for intentional images

Image result for commitment definition imagesThat is it. Those are the two key words that separate those who move toward their God-given potential and those who do not.  Intentional Commitment.

John Maxwell says, “What separates the developer of a successful dream from a mere
daydreamer is committed action.”

Tony Robbins says it is when something becomes a must that people move forward.

Intentional commitment, committed action, developing your “must”, however you want to say it, it comes down to deciding exactly what you are going to do and then doing it no matter what. (Dave Ramsey calls this your “no matter whats.”).

Zig Ziglar tells the story of when he was a little boy during the depression, he always tried to be at the neighbor’s house at dinner time. The reason?  He thought his neighbors were rich. Why?  Because they had their own cook and the cook had something to cook.

One day the cook brought a pan of biscuits out of the oven and they were not any thicker than a wrist watch. Zig asked the lady, “What on earth happened to your biscuits?” She laughed a little bit and answered, “Well, these biscuits squatted to rise, and they just got cooked in the squat.”

Often times we get cooked in the squat. We get ready to do something, or we talk about doing something or we seek affirmation and approval from others before we do something, and we inevitably end up getting cooked in the squat.

Be intentional, make a solid commitment, and take action. This is how you get closer to reaching your God-given potential.

4 Questions To Ask Before Taking Action

“Everyone gets an idea in the shower, but the successful ones get out of the shower, dry off, and do something about it” (Nolan Bushnell, inventor of Atari).Image result for take action images

Successful people take action. People who reach their God-given potential take action. Not only do they take action they take focused action and they make corrections along the way.

There is a purpose behind every action they take. When that action no longer serves the purpose then they adjust the action to better serve the purpose.

Remember this acronym, FACE:

Focus: People who reach their God-given potential are focused. They have a specific idea of what they want to accomplish and they move in that direction.

Action: They take action! They are not ones to sit around and wonder what they should do next. They are people who are consistently getting up and going to work toward their God-given purpose.

Image result for change direction imagesCorrection: They take notice of what is working and what’s not and they make adjustments accordingly. These people know how to evaluate whether their actions are taking them closer to their God-given potential or farther away.

Example: One of the best ways to know what to do to reach your God-given potential is to find someone who is in a similar place to where you want to be and find out what they did to get there. Then do the same thing. This will speed up your process so you do not have to make all the mistakes yourself. You can learn from the mistakes of others.

Ask yourself these 4 questions as you journey toward your God-given potential:

  • What is God wanting me to accomplish? What is my God-given purpose?
  • What action do I need to take immediately to move me closer to that purpose or end?
  • What adjustments do I need to make to better serve my purpose?
  • Who is where I want to be and what can I learn from them
