What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

never give up 2A few years ago I was heading out of Roanoke, Virginia and I saw a billboard that I will never forget. There was a bird, I think it was a crane, with a frog in his mouth. The only part of the frog you could see were the arms, legs, and the lump in the bird’s throat. The frog’s legs were dangling lifelessly. However, the arms of the frog were full of life as he had a death grip around the throat of that bird just below the lump. The words at the top of the billboard read,

NEVER GIVE UP!

That is my encouragement to you, “never give up!” No matter how hard times may get, never give up 4“never give up!” No matter how many times you have failed, remember to get back up and keep on trying. Failure just gives you the opportunity to begin again more intelligently, so, “never give up!” Remember to fail forward and not backward. Learn, grow, and go and “never give up!” The one thing we all have in common is failure. Failure is an event it is not a person. You may have failed, but you are not a failure, “never give up!”

When people are telling you that you cannot do it, when people are laughing at you
because you want to try it one more time, even when you begin to tell yourself that you are not good enough, change those negative failure messages to positive success messages and “never give up!”

never give up3When the only light you can see at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train, keep going and “never give up!” When people put you down and make fun of you because you have the fortitude and determination to live the exceptional life instead of the average, mediocre life, “never give up!” When things are so bad that all you can see is the inside of huge bird’s esophagus… “Never give up!”

You have a focused enthusiasm for exceptional living that unfocused, boring, mediocre existers just don’t have. Do not let them drag you down to their level of unfocused, boring, mediocre deadness. Remain focused, enthusiastic, exceptional and alive as you fail your way to success.

The secret of success is: If you fall down seven times, get up eight.
That is it.
That is what it takes.
So no matter what:

nevergiveup

Focused Enthusiasm for Entrepreneurs

Finances are important when it comes to running a business.  I have had money and I haven’t had money, it is better to have it.

If you are not making money you will not be in business long. So, how does an entrepreneur reach their financial goals?

  1. Do something you are passionate about. entrepreneur 3
Money is not a strong enough motivator to sustain you over the long haul. Make sure you are doing something you love.
  2. Get focused.
Focus in on what it is you want to accomplish in your business.Put these together and you have focused enthusiasm.

Focused enthusiasm is the main ingredient for entrepreneurial success. Here are some tips on how to develop focused enthusiasm.

Ask yourself 4 questions:

  • How much money are you going to make in the next 12 months?

Get specific. Write down a specific number, not a range. How much money will you make in the next 12 months? It is difficult to focus on several different numbers, so get focused by being specific.

  • entrepreneur marketWho is your market?

Who needs or wants what you are offering? (They are out there, you just have to find them.)

Without a market, you do not have a business, you have a hobby. You have to find your market. There are some people who could care less about your product or service. Let’s be honest, probably most people do not care about your product or service. However, there are some who do care. There are some who will pay for what you have to offer. Find those people.

  • What are some creative ways to get your product to your market?

Use your imagination. The most powerful nation in the world is imagination!

How can you get your product or service to those who want it so badly they are willing to pay for it? You cannot answer this question until you identify your market. You will not discover the best way to reach your market until you get to know your market.

Be creative, use your imagination and think outside the… on second thought, just throw that box away! You have a brain, you do not need a box.

  • How much time and money you will invest into the business?

Decide if this is going to be full-time, part-time, or a hobby. Any option is fine as long as you are making the decision intentionally and not by default. Your financial goal will have to reflect your time investment. In other words, do not expect to make $100,000 this year if you are only investing four or five hours a week in your business.

The more money you want to make, the harder and smarter and longer hours you will have to work. Be intentional.

Remember, it takes focused enthusiasm to create success as an entrepreneur. Just being passionate will not a business make. You need to make some specific plans.

Jesus Vomit

Have you ever thought about Jesus getting sick and throwing up? Is that even right to think such a thing? What would make Jesus vomit?

A bad case of the flu?
Some Middle Eastern contaminated water?
Eating food without washing his hands?

Here’s a thought…. perhaps, it is our lack of passion… hmmmmmm

 Revelation 3:15-16passion
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth” (NIV). Some translations actually translate the word “spit” as “vomit”.

Maybe our lack of passion is what causes Jesus to vomit. Find your God-given passion and follow it passionately. Let’s get hot and on fire!

“I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnate. You make me want to vomit” (The Message).

What else does the Bible say about passion?

 Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (NIV). Guard your God-given passion. Do not let roadblocks suck the life right out of you by stealing your passion. “Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts” (The Message).

Proverbs 27:19
“As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man” (NIV). People define who you are by what you are passionate about. People can see it in your face. “Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart” (The Message).

Matthew 12:34
“For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks” (NIV). What you talk about most is typically what you are most passionate about. If you want to know if your passion is a godly passion, listen to yourself talk, is it godly talk? “It’s your heart, not the dictionary that gives meaning to your words” (The Message).

Mark 12:30
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (NIV). If you want to have a God-given passion, it starts with having an all-out passion for God.  “So love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy” (The Message).

If you do not want Jesus to throw up all over you (I know, that is gross, right? So, pay attention to these next words.) Fall passionately in love with God and then follow your God-given passion…passionately!

What Will You Do With Failure?

  • what will you doHave you ever failed?  Have you ever failed to the point that you didn’t know what to do next?

We are going to look at two people in the Bible that failed bigtime! Their names were Judas and Peter.

They both failed miserably, but how they handled their own failure was dramatically different. Both Judas and Peter spent around three years traveling with and learning from Jesus.

    Picture this:

    Judas

Judas was part of the twelve closest people to Jesus. However, Judas betrayed Jesus in a way that eventually led to Jesus’ death. The chief priests paid Judas thirty pieces of silver to take them to and identify Jesus so they could arrest him. Their plan worked. Jesus was arrested and eventually killed.

Judas had failed Jesus.judas and peter

After Judas realized what he had done he was so filled with remorse that he could no longer live with himself. He returned the silver coins, ran away and committed suicide. The pain of having betrayed the man who had taught, mentored, and loved him over the past three years was more than Judas could bear.

Death was the only relief he could think of.

    Peter

Peter was also part of the twelve closest people to Jesus. He was possibly one Jesus’ closest three disciples. After Jesus was arrested, Peter followed from a distance to see what was going to happen.  Three times someone recognized Peter as a follower of Jesus. Three times he denied even knowing who Jesus was. Peter became so frustrated with people recognizing him, he even began to curse and swear.

Peter had failed Jesus. After Peter realized what he had done, he wept bitterly.

Peter repented of his failure. Less than two months later Peter preached a message about Jesus (who by this time had risen from the dead and ascended back into heaven) that caused about 3,000 people to have their lives changed forever, eternally.

Peter went on to be a leader; biblical author; and a person who did great, life-transforming work for God.
