Each personality style has a different way of being energized and motivated. The same thing that gets me going may not be the same thing that gets you going. How is each personality style energized? I’m so glad you asked!
First of all, let’s point out that any of the four styles can be extroverts or introverts. Extroverts are energized by being around people. Introverts are energized by being alone. With this in mind, let’s look at the unique energizers for each personality style?
The security seeking style-The Hearts-are energized by accomplishment. When they can mark items off their To-Do list they are energized. They want to be able to look back at the end of the day and say, “I got a great deal done today!” They are typically energized by connection and community with others as well, especially if they are an extroverted heart. Hearts like to know they are a part of a community of family and friends.
The thrill-seeking style-The Bodies-are energized by fun and excitement. When they can live in the moment without regard to yesterday or tomorrow, they are in their peak state. They want to say at the end of the day, “Wow, that was fun! I can’t wait to do again tomorrow…On second thought, why wait until tomorrow, I want to do it all again right now!” If they are extroverted they want a large group of people to have this experience with them. If they are introverted just one or two close friends will do.
The identity seeking style-The Souls-are energized by a sense of purpose and meaning. When they feel like they have made a difference in the world, they are energized. At the end of the day, Souls want to be able to look back and say, “I helped change the world for the better today!” Souls are energized when the can see someone they have invested time and energy with, to begin to reach their potential. Extroverts want to motivate the masses while introverts want to motivate those who are closest to them.
The knowledge seeking style-The Minds-are motivated by gaining knowledge. When they can learn something new they are energized. They want to be able to look back over their day and say, “This was a good day because I learned something today.” Often, extroverts desire to learn with others as long as the others are mentally up for the challenge of working with them. Minds are often drained when working with people they do not see as being on their intellectual level. Introverts typically prefer to work alone for long hours at a time.
Sometimes the reason we do not accomplish much is because we have not fully discovered what energizes us. Discover what energizes you and you can be fueled to accomplish great things.
